The New England Regional Homebrew Competition (NERHBC) is one of the most respected homebrew competitions in the country. Around 17 years old, this competition stared with a handful of entries and one judge. At its peak NERHBC accepted 450 entries and worked with a staff of over 40 volunteers. During the pandemic, NERHBC utilized a hybrid model of judging with a reduced amount of entries. This competition accepts all styles of beer, cider & mead.
Proceeds from NERHBC do not benefit the club. After covering competition costs, the remaining “profit” is split between two charities: the American Cancer Society and the NH Food Bank. The competition is also a great source for beer education. Newer judges are paired with their more senior counterparts to judge a style of beer according to the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) guidelines. This helps enlarge the pool of qualified judges and drive the necessary feedback to help homebrewers grow in their hobby. Our stewards are encouraged to taste, listen and learn as well.
